All throughout the lifetime of the universe, it is still expanding and has not stopped. Astronomers on Earth can turn their telescopes to peer 13.8 billion light-years in every direction, which puts Earth inside of an observable sphere with a radius of 13.8 billion light-years. However, a team of scientists led by Mihran Vardanyan at the University of Oxford found that the universe is at least 250 times larger than the observable universe, or at least 7 trillion light-years across. The earth being a tiny planet in the vast university limits the knowledge of what lies beyond the observable universe.
Unexplained aerial observations have been reported throughout history. An unidentified flying object or UFO, is defined as a perceived object in the sky, not identifiable by standard criteria. The term “UFO” was coined in 1953 by the United States Air Force (USAF) to serve as a catch-all for all such reports.
Alien life has also resurged in popular culture lately. The “Star Trek” and “Star Wars” franchises each premiered several movies in theaters in the past few years. While there is no conclusive evidence to prove the existence of extra-terrestrial life, the U.S. government has searched for UFOs across several other programs which include Project Sign (in the 1940s), Project Grudge (in the 1940s and 1950s), the more famous Project Blue Book, which was dissolved in 1969 and investigations done by the Central Intelligence Agency up until 2017. However the majority of information remains classified.
The former head of the Pentagon’s secret, $22 million UFO-hunting program says aliens may have visited Earth. “My personal belief is that there is very compelling evidence that we may not be alone,” Luis Elizondo, former leader of the so-called Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program, told CNN in December 2017.
The number of UFO sightings is currently flying at an all-time high. There have been more than 100,000 recorded UFO sightings in the past 100-plus years. But NASA, the expert in space activity, has remained notoriously tight-lipped when it comes to alien life.
The Roswell UFO incident is a world-renowned conspiracy theory about the existence of aliens. In the summer of 1947, a farmer discovered unidentifiable debris in his sheep fields just outside Roswell, New Mexico. A local Air Force base claimed the debris came from a crashed hot air balloon, but many people reckon it’s really the remains of a flying saucer.
Dubbed the “British Roswell“, a similar incident happened in Rendlesham Forest in 1980. On December 26, Military personnel from RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge, in Suffolk, saw strange lights in a nearby forest – and three of them were sent out to investigate. Two of them encountered a small, triangular shaped craft – which they later drew images of. One man, Jim Penniston, got close enough to touch the side of the object. Two nights later, Deputy Base Commander Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt and his team also encountered the UFO – and were left baffled by the entire experience.
While some evidence have been debunked as fake, there are still so many that have left even the experts scratching their heads and wondering if we really have been visited by creatures from another planet!
